Wendy Pierce:
College Planner and Writing Specialist
The College Planning Center is pleased to have Wendy Pierce as a College Planner and as our Writing Specialist. Wendy brings her enthusiasm and expertise to aid students in all facets of writing including the personal statement, supplemental essays, and essays for scholarship applications. Wendy has taught upper-division and Advanced Placement English in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District since 1991. Working with students to improve their voice, style, and precision in writing is what Wendy does best. The Personal Statement has become an increasingly significant component of the college application, and one that seems to evoke much stress from students. Wendy encourages students to stay genuine and authentic while telling their story and to allow admission officers to get to know what makes them unique. Wendy’s experience as a high school teacher has brought insight and wisdom about the teenage years to her college planning skills. She provides balance between encouraging and challenging her students as they prepare for the college transition.
A graduate with a B.A. in English from Angelo State University in Texas, Wendy has also completed graduate coursework in English at California State University, Sacramento in addition to Area Three Writing training in Improving Student’s Academic Writing. She brings first-hand insights into what readers are looking for through her experience scoring CAHSEE, EAP, and AP English essay exams for the past several years. With a witty but serious demeanor, Wendy enjoys establishing rapport with students. A mother of three daughters, one in college, one in high school, and a third in middle school, she can relate to the challenges of balancing a busy schedule with dedicating time to academics. She looks forward to working with your students to inspire their writing.
